Vinous

The 2023 Batailley has really come together beautifully since I tasted it en primeur. Silky and potent, Batailley has so much to offer, specifically the way it balances power and finesse. Blackberry, gravel, crushed rocks, lavender, espresso and cloves are some of the many notes that build in the glass. Potent and ample, the 2023 has so much to offer. Batailley is a great example of what Bordeaux does best: turn out wines that remain fairly priced, in volume. 03/2026

Vinous

The 2023 Batailley has a well-defined bouquet with sappy blackberry and bilberry fruit, well-integrated oak, the typical classic Batailley style with a bit of panache. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very well balanced, slightly powdery in texture, with ample weight on the finish. It is built in a more approachable style compared to the wines of 10 to 20 years ago, a smooth operator! 02/2026

Robert Parker/Wine Advocate

The 2023 Haut-Batailley is a blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot that increasingly resembles its stablemate Lynch Bages in style. Offering up aromas of dark berries, plums, pencil shavings and creamy new oak, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with plenty of generously extracted, youthfully chewy tannin and a long, lusty finish. 04/2024

Deep ruby/plum-hued, the 2023 Château Batailley offers a spicy, red and black-fruited, lead pencil-driven perfume to go with medium-bodied richness and depth on the palate. It's nicely balanced, has some of the firmer tannins of the vintage, and has good length. It should be an outstanding wine when all is said and done. 05/2024

Beautiful fruit with currants and blackberries, as well as notes of walnuts and chocolate. So much blackberry fruit here. Aromatic. Medium- to full-bodied with very fine tannins on the deep and structured palate. Racy and long finish. 79% cabernet sauvignon, 19% merlot and 2% petit verdot. 04/2024
