Antonio Galloni

Vinous

The 2020 Lascombes is a deep, sensual wine. Blackberry fruit, lavender, espresso and chocolate are all amplified in this exotic Margaux. Plush and racy, with soft tannins, Lascombes shows off the more opulent side of the appellation. The 2020 is not super-complex, but it is easy to appreciate and drink. 12/2022

Neal Martin

Vinous

The 2020 Lascombes undergoes malo in barrel (using the Oxoline rack system whereby the barrels can be rotated on wheels) and matured in 60% new oak. The bouquet has opened up nicely since I tasted it in barrel with pressed violet scents infusing the blackberry and raspberry fruit, touches of incense coming through. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, much more flesh than the Deuxième Vin, fine backbone with ample weight on the graphite-tinged finish. There's a little more classicism compared to older vintages, a bit more terroir expression. Give this 4-5 years in bottle. 12/2022.

William Kelley

Robert Parker/Wine Advocate

The 2020 Lascombes offers up rich aromas of blackberry preserve, mint chocolate and plum liqueur, followed by a medium to full-bodied, firm and heavily extracted palate, concluding with a chewy, somewhat drying finish. If the inherent charm of the 2019 vintage did much to mitigate this heavy-handed style of winemaking, the tannins of 2020 are less forgiving. 04/2023

Bonne longueur. Assemblage : 55 % cabernet sauvignon, 40 % merlot, 5 % petit verdot. Degré d’alcool : 13,5° - pH : 3,76. Rendement : 40 hl/ha.

Aromas of crushed blackcurrants and cherries with dried Provence herbs, lavender, raw walnuts and spiced cedar. Graphite, too. Full and muscular with a broad-shouldered, velvety tannin structure that goes on for minutes. Textured and chalky with a lingering finish. Very polished. 55% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot and 5% petit verdot. Try after 2027. 05/2023
