La Source Brut Nature 2022 Champagne Domaine de Bichery

Hannah and Raphaël Boesel-Piconnet have made a fantastic debut with their first cuvées from the 2015 vintage. We have been supporting them from the very start with pride and enthusiasm! After gaining experience at various renowned estates in Burgundy, Switzerland and Bordeaux, Raphaël returned to the family estate on the Côte des Bar during the 2013 season. The estate’s approximately 10 different plots are spread across two communes and extend over a 10-kilometre radius around the Domaine. In keeping with the terroir, these plots are planted with 60% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay and a small amount of Pinot Meunier. Immediately upon his return, Raphaël decided to trial organic cultivation on some plots initially, and from 2015 onwards, to manage the entire vineyard exclusively using organic methods. As a result, the Domaine has been officially ECOCERT-certified since 2016. From the very beginning, the focus has been on the work in the vineyard. However, producing champagne and wine from these grapes has always been the goal and was realised for the first time in 2015. In a barn specially renovated for this purpose – where Raphaël’s grandfather had previously produced wine – the young winemaker vinified his first 5,000 bottles of champagne and Côteaux Champenois in the autumn of 2015. And what a year to start with! The domaine’s philosophy and aspiration are to express every single year, with all its facets, in its champagnes. Unvarnished, honest. No two years are alike. And so, depending on the weather and nature, the conditions present a new challenge every year. Ultimately, the aim is to experience, smell and taste the quality of the work, the love of viticulture and the relationship with nature in the bottle. La Source 2022: 40% Chardonnay, 50% Pinot Noir and 10% Pinot Meunier. Fermentation takes place with natural yeasts in barrels and stainless steel tanks; malolactic fermentation occurs spontaneously. No fining, no filtration, cold stabilisation. The wine was kept on the lees until bottling on 27 March 2023. Disgorgement took place on 27 February 2025, 0 g/l dosage, Brut Nature.
