Massetino is the younger sibling of the iconic Masseto and was released for the first time in 2017. It was created to express the identity and character of the unique Bolgheri terroir in a second wine. Like its elder brother, it is based predominantly on Merlot, complemented by a small proportion of Cabernet Franc, which adds structure and freshness.
The grapes are sourced from the same vineyards as Masseto, with selections made from parcels that show a more approachable style and earlier drinkability. Nevertheless, Massetino is crafted under the same rigorous standards: hand-harvesting, organic vineyard management, precise vinification, and aging in French oak barriques.
With its combination of elegance and vibrancy, Massetino reflects the unmistakable style and philosophy of Masseto, but in a form that is more accessible in its youth. It is both a welcome counterpart and a distinctive expression of the Tuscan terroir.
