The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Fôrets Saint Georges 1er Cru has a slightly more savory nose with hints of dried blood interwoven into the black and blue fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with relatively dry tannins, missing its peers' tension and fruit purity. It is structured but maybe a little over-extracted in the winery. Again, it needs more Pinoté. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. 09/2024

43% whole bunch. A rich deep dense purple colour. Concentrated dark fruit, there is a plummy richness to the fruit, suggests maybe picked a day or two late. Pleasingly fresh finish, almost a bit angular, as if there are two parts to the wine which have not yet fully integrated. The structure suggests picked a fraction too early, the fruit says it needed to be harvested. Tasted Dec 2021.

The 2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Forêts St Georges opens in the glass with scents of cherries, cassis and plums. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, it's a broad shouldered, muscular wine with a deep core of fruit and a notable payload of rich, powdery tannins. This is a rather chunky, blocky Clos des Forêts that is more impactful than elegant at this early stage. 01/2022
