Vinous

The 2017 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru has a very open and expressive bouquet, with background scents of tobacco infusing the black fruit. There is fine mineralité, very focused with marine scents emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, impressive substance and tension, a little new oak to be subsumed with a light spiced, quite sapid finish. Convincing length. Excellent. Tasted at the Domaine de L’Arlot tasting at La Cabotte in London. 11/2021

Inside Burgundy

Clear even mid purple. There is plenty of fruit intensity on the nose, alongside a vanilla character. Backward but building in the glass. The structure is firm, and that includes some wood tannins, but the fruit is remarkably intense and shows great promise. Tasted Sep 2021.

Robert Parker/Wine Advocate

Opening in the glass with a deep but youthfully reserved bouquet of raspberries and cherries mingled with notions of rose petals, violets and spices, the 2017 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru is full-bodied, supple and enveloping, its velvety tannins cloaked in succulent fruit. Charming and exquisitely structurally refined, this is nonetheless the deepest, most introverted wine in the range, and it will demand at least a decade's patience. 01/2020
