The 2020 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a very tight nose at first, opening with black cherries, iodine, peony and inky scents. Quintessentially Bonnes Mares. The palate is quite dense on the entry, slightly lactic in texture with hints of dark chocolate infusing the dark berry fruit, the finish structured and more Morey-like in style. This will need a decade in bottle. 11/2021

A full dense colour. The bouquet is rather on the heavy side, with over-ripe raspberries, which currently seem too simple for grand cru level. A very cheerful enjoyable wine on the palate, super seductive in some ways but the primary fruit lacks the hoped for complexity. There is no doubting density or persistence though. Drink from 2030-2040. Tasted Sep 2024.
