Vinous

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru is quite high-toned and flashy on the nose, offering floral, lush blueberry and cassis fruit. It just lacks a bit of terroir expression and refinement. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and very pure fruit. Sleek and sensual, although I do find that the finish lacks some amplitude and feels a little monochromatic compared to others. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. 09/2021

Inside Burgundy

Rich dense purple, with an exotic plump fruit, the spices of the souk. Really intense on the palate with some of the lifted hedonistic excitement we hope for from Amoureuses, slightly firm acidity, tannins present but in the right balance, long finish. I predict an excellent future assuming the acidity integrates. Tasted Sep 2021.

Robert Parker/Wine Advocate

The most elegant wine in the cellar is the 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses, a classy offering that bursts with aromas of black raspberries, cherries, rose petals, dark chocolate, spices and grilled squab. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and succulent, with an ample core of fruit, melting tannins and a long, sappy finish. François Millet began the harvest at Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé on September 2, having worked hard throughout the growing season to limit the generous potential yields provided by vines that suffered hard in the 2016 frosts. He succeeded in delaying malolactic fermentations until the following summer, and the resulting wines are unusually saturated in hue—to the extent that Millet was anxious to emphasize that he hadn't sought to extract more than usual. Readers will know the by now well-established rudiments of winemaking here: destemmed grapes, slow fermentations emphasizing pumping over—with pigeage reserved solely for the Bonnes Mares, delayed malolactic fermentations and élevage with one racking. 01/2019
