The 2024 Certan de May is a dark, brooding Pomerol. Incense, cloves, licorice, grilled herbs and spice give Certan de May a decidedly virile, almost somber character. The wine is perhaps a touch light on the mid-palate relative to some years, and yet its balance is beyond reproach. This is promising. 04/2025

he 2024 Certan de May was picked 23 September to 6 October and is aged in 80% new oak. It has a strange nose that is missing some freshness. Likewise, the palate is framed by dry, grainy tannins that do not feel enmeshed with the sweet 'n' sour fruit. There's a dash of spice toward the attenuated finish, but overall, it is missing cohesion, finesse and harmony. 04/2025

Sappy spring flowers, rose, sweet red fruits, and cedar pencil notes all emerge from the 2024 Château Certan De May, a medium-bodied, fresh, focused, elegant Pomerol that has elevated acidity, a nicely layered mouthfeel, and fine tannins. This pretty, more red-fruited, floral Pomerol is based on 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, aging in 80% new barrels, and is going to need just a few years of bottle age to come together. The higher Cabernet component really gives this a singular character. 05/2025
