The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru offers impressive, delineated redcurrant and cranberry fruit on the nose, not powerful, but neat and precise. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, quite fleshy and Chambolle-like. Slightly granular in texture towards the marine-tinged finish, I would give this 2-3 years in bottle. Very fine. 11/2021

Another colour which is an elegant rather thana massive style of purple. A white pepper freshness finish reminds me of whole bunches but they don’t use it for Gevrey-Chambertin wines. Excellent alpine strawberry note, and a very fine persistent finish. Good. Tasted Nov 2021.

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques unfurls to reveal aromas of dark berries, rose petals, exotic spices and violets. Medium to full-bodied, layered and complete, with terrific concentration, lively acids and beautifully refined tannins, this is especially promising this year. Jérôme Flous told me that he began harvest on August 19, and he was as pleased with the wines as he was taken aback by their vibrancy and saturated hues. It's a terrific set of wines for Faiveley, with lower alcohol and lower pHs than in 2019 but with incredible concentration and purity. Everything reviewed here comes warmly recommended. 01/2022
