The 2020 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru does not fully deliver the complexity of its peers, though there is plenty of red and blue fruit, strawberry wine gums and lavender. There are some Brettanomyces here, a bit sauvage. But I'm still drawn to the aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with an almost creamy texture, brambly red fruit with deft use of whole bunches lending a discreet pepperiness. There's a lot going on in this wine as it unfolds with time, a classy operator. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. 09/2024

Clear bright purple. Rather reductive, bacon fat. The fruit on the palate is very smart though, with considerable length and elegance. The fruit expands on the second half of the palate in a very attractive way. But then a bacterial note emerges. I have not rated what would otherwise have scored around 95 points. Tasted Sep 2024.

The 2020 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is deep and brooding, unfurling in the glass with aromas of blackberries, peonies, loamy soil and sweet soil tones. Full-bodied, ample and velvety, its concentrated core of fruit is framed by rich, powdery tannins and succulent acids. It's a worthy follow-up to the brilliant 2019. Jérôme Flous told me that he began harvest on August 19, and he was as pleased with the wines as he was taken aback by their vibrancy and saturated hues. It's a terrific set of wines for Faiveley, with lower alcohol and lower pHs than in 2019 but with incredible concentration and purity. Everything reviewed here comes warmly recommended. 01/2022
