Vinous

The 2009 Musigny Vieilles Vignes fleshes out beautifully with endless layers of fruit that caress the palate in stunning style. Sweet floral notes meld into expressive dark red fruit in this mysterious, evocative Burgundy. There is a weightless intensity to the Musigny that is achingly gorgeous. Waves of flavor continue to build towards the sexy, racy finish as the 2009 shows off its pedigree. The 2009 will always be an exuberant Musigny, but time in bottle will help shed some of the baby fat. This is likely to be a great, great wine for several decades. 04/2012

Vinous

The 2009 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is one of the most successful wines of François Millet's reign. This has light bricking on the rim. The bouquet bursts forth with red berry fruit, shoe leather and menthol, crushed flowers and sous-bois. Maybe it would benefit from a little more delineation? The palate is beautifully balanced with fine-boned tannins, an unerring symmetry and a silky-smooth texture. Hints of spice appear towards the tender and long finish. Superb. Tasted blind at a 2009 horizontal at Club 1243. 11/2022

Inside Burgundy

A fresher colour than the Bonnes Mares, though still not one of the deepest. There is latent magic, overlaid with the accessible puppy fat of the vintage. There is greater intensity to the fruit across the palate, some nuances, a little bit of peach in with the deep red fruit, then a long and still infant finish. Tasted Jun 2019.
