Vinous

The 2016 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru has a complex bouquet with mainly red fruit infused with bay leaf, brown spices, ginger bread and hints of pain d’épices. The palate is medium-bodied and much stricter and linear than the nose suggests, perhaps a Musigny that has decided to close down. I like the grip and salinity here, a distinct marine presence towards the finish. It develops more juiciness with aeration, but still does not quite capture the imagination like their Bonnes-Mares. Tasted at the Domaine. 05/2019

Inside Burgundy

Fine deep purple in colour. A rich, powerful, all-encompassing bouquet. But there is something not quite clean at the back in this sample. It is a burly, weighty wine aimed for the long term, with firm acidity, but I am not sure that this is a completely representative sample. Tasted Sep 2019.
