Vinous

The 2019 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet with mainly red berry fruit intermixed with clove and white pepper. There is something a little Rhône-like about the fruit profile. The palate is well-balanced and less tannic than recent vintage, with moderate grip. It is slightly savory in style, and I'm seeking a little more brightness on the finish. This is one where I prefer the 2018 by direct comparison. 10/2023

Inside Burgundy

The colour has evolved more than the 2018. Interesting complex nose, a mix of the warmer pinot style, riper and more supple than the 2018, you could almost consider drinking this until you come to the end of the palate where the density builds. A light menthol touch with some cinnamon. Enough acidity at the back, tannins hidden by the fruit, almost saline at the finish. Ultimately more character than the ’18 though with a slightly riper fruit profile. Tasted Nov 2021.
