Vinous

The 2015 Siepi, Mazzei's flagship Sangiovese/Merlot, is powerful and voluptuous on the palate. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, leather, licorice and espresso fill out the wine's ample frame nicely. Silky tannins and soft curves add to the wine's undeniable appeal. 07/2018

By this point in this historic retrospective of 26 vintages, it becomes very easy to spot the warmest and sunniest vintages. The Mazzei 2015 Siepi (a blend of Merlot aged in French oak barrels for 18 months and Sangiovese aged in 500-liter casks) offers dark fruit, spice and lots of eucalyptus, rosemary and balsam herb. The wine also shows some elegant mineral tones with crushed limestone. These results are rich and generous, and what the wine lacks in depth, it makes up for in power and richness. Production was 38,000 bottles. Siepi was not made in the difficult 2014 vintage that saw above average rainfall and below average temperatures. 04/2022

Great depth to this with a fabulous center-palate of ripe fruit such as plums, blackberries and blueberries, not to mention raspberries. Full-bodied and showing an ultra-fine and intense texture. Superb finish. Great potential. 10/2016
