The 1988 Krug Collection, a 2017 disgorgement, offers an enticing bouquet of grilled walnut, baked bread and a touch of freshly baked gingerbread on the nose, displaying exquisite delineation and focus. A tang of bitterness on the entry refreshes the senses. This champagne is impressive in terms of depth and salinity. Vibrant and bright, it conveys a sense of completeness, so that you can’t help coming back for just one more sip. At its peak? Probably. 03/2022

Of course, I have always loved this wine in all its forms. Today one of the safest players on the world-class tastings. In Collection form, of course, a little shy and more slowly developed. However, I already end up in Nirvana when the delicate elegance of the newly opened glass reminds a lot of the birch's delicate mouse ears in May, in the same way that 1988 Clos du Mesnil was in its infancy. On the whole, the wine is currently more characterized by Chardonnay in its most beautiful and subtle form. The late discorgement holds back the Pinot aromatics like a chastened symphony orchestra under a dictatorial conductor and only lets the Pinot grapes settle up and provide fullness initially. After a while in the glass, that part comes so slowly and trumps out a world-class crescendo. Powder smoke, roasted barrels, coffee, strawberries, acacia honey, honeysuckle and church candles interact in an almost perfect way. Not cheap directly, but worth every hole in your wallet if you want an extraterrestrial Krug experience. Thank you Monsieur Arve! 12/2019
